Age categories vary like 0-11 months, 12-23 months, and 2-3 years, 4-6 years and onwards. Little Miss, Baby Miss, and Petite Miss are just some of the age divisions of the child pageant. during the presentation. Critiques judge these lovely kids while during the sportswear, evening wear, swimwear, writing skills, talent (dancing and singing), modeling, and interview.
Boasting self-confidence and self-esteem are just some of the many essential values in allowing children to join any pageant. However, there are facts and criticisms towards the parents allowing their children join the pageant. Children are exposed to cosmetic make ups, spray tans, and other aesthetic chemicals that could be harmful to children at a very young age. The childs face and body hair were even waxed or threaded for them to look much glooming and blooming on stage. These criticisms have raised attention and to ask if the child pageant are under the scope of the Child Labor Law. Child pageants set some rules that allow it to be an ungoverned program. It is not considered as a working act. Thus, it is not covered by the restriction of the Child Labor Law.
Further criticism showed that the rules over the pageant should be modified providing a fulfilling contest of beauty. According to the point of criticism, children could be negatively impacted by the actions taken by the beauty pageant, and it can further be damaging to the childs persona today and in the future. With the pageant, a changing lifestyle will be change. Like the effects of the competition to the child (stress and anxiety). Later on, children could develop depression, lowered self-confidence, and eating disorders. With that, as parents we should always consider the overall welfare of our child before allowing them to join in any beauty pageant. Anyway, beauty cannot only be showcase by joining to a beauty pageant.
